Mission: Materializing Social Media

Mission: Materializing Social Media

MISSION

Developed and co Taught course in the Industrial Design department at the Rhode Island School of Design.  See course Description below.

[From an Instagram food post to paying our friends for last night’s pizza run via Venmo, social media has become the transcendental interface to our alternate personas, the facilitator of distant relations and hypocrisies, and one of the defining symbiotic/parasitic relationships of our time. Even in this day and age where social media encompasses our daily living, the boundaries, repercussions and future manifestations of the relationships occurring within it are still undefined. ‘Mission’ focuses on the observation, study, and speculation of social media as undefined networks which house relationships between man-man, man-machine, & man and self. These relationship studies will manifest themselves in the form of writings and multi-dimensional maps which will give way to designs portraying the understanding and control of such affinities. ‘Mission’ will give students (Mission Personnel) the ability to express/explore their own experiences and interest within the under explored digital society. This course is designed for students with interests in systems thinking, speculation, multi-dimensional representations, and critical theory.]
