ARCHIVE OF BEING

c. 2015

Situated inside a former grain-drying bin, our installation is at once architectural and archaeological, a study of value and codification that examines the intimate connections between land-use, body, and structure. We believe that our ability to perceive these relationships is intensified when positioned in a space not meant for human in habitation, as the lack of emphatic tendencies within the bin allows an opportunity to explore the often-overlooked connections between place, building, body, and time. As such, the installation is both observational and self-reflective, providing a space for contemplation within a harsh environment, using the drying bin as a focus that enhances the sensory and perceptive experience of the bodies which violate the programmed intention of the space in order to grasp the continuum of history and tradition of Iowa’s cultural past.
